Sanga Mithra Development association (SAMIDA) optes sachi to design their website

The Sanga Mithra Development association (SAMIDA) is a voluntary organization initiated in the year 1988. Initially SAMIDA served the weaker sections with own staff from the contributions of the board members of the organization. At that time the organization was not registered under the society's registration Act.

Target group

Children: To provide healthy personality development acquiring vocational skills and professional development for their sustainability.

Women: Identifying the poor women and providing income generating activities to them through formation of self help groups and adopting family planning & welfare programs relating opportunities in various vocational fields by providing training in the respect fields for sustainability as their own.

Farmers: To create awareness on Non pest management and traditional Agricultural Methods in our target area.

Widows: Creating opportunities in various vocational fields by providing training in the respect fields for sustainability as their own.

Youth : To Prevent the youth in participating the antisocial activities. Provide academic as well as carrier guidance to the youth. Provide vocational training to the skilled persons. Fixing the targets to the youth for their future life. Counsel and motivate them to achieve their targets .Up gradation of the skills for the skilled workers with latest technology. Creating the self- employment opportunities. Engaging the youth in the work nature and keep away from the idleness. Creating the youth as a role model to the future generation. Involving them in the welfare activities and implementing the Govt. policies. Preventing the youth from the drug addiction. Creating awareness for the youth on the chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS etc

Social Characteristics of the SAMIDA Working Area: Rate of literacy was about 16 % as against the district average of 40%. This has been increased to about 35% as against the District average of about 50%.

Alcoholism is a major problem: Campaigns against alcoholism have been having an impact on the younger generation. Fifteen percent of the 300 members belonging to about 30 Youth Associations, promoted by SAMIDA were weaned away from alcoholism. The operational area is 60 Km away from the District headquarters. The community has to face a number of problems because of local red-tapism. Access to the local Mandal officials is not easy. A series of trainings in awareness building in Government functioning and exposure to other areas has enabled the community to gain confidence to access local Government Offices.

This has mitigated their hardship of reaching to Visakhapatnam, over 60 km away, even for small works. The other significant development is team approach for representing any issue to the Officials; conflict settlement within the village by the women. Women approach legal aid on their own, in case of land issues and women property rights. They also form counseling teams to settle family conflicts.

Women suffer from nutritional deficiencies: Women continue to suffer from nutritional deficiencies. Vast number of awareness trainings in releasing their self-worth could not make them to take care of their health. A woman’s psyche to provide for every family member, while sacrificing her health and hunger, continues. The Positive aspect for this scenario is in the improvement of children’s health and educational status. of late, women groups seek SAMIDA a support in holding health camps for chronic diseases like TB, gynecological problems, cancer etc, Women take responsibility for hosting the health team and organizing the camps. Major social threat being child marriage.

The contributing factor is socio-economic. Earlier, the girls were married much before their puberty. The present condition has improved in the sense that the marriageable are is about 16 to 17 years while the legal marriageable are is 18 years. Majority of the target families are small farmers. Farm hands and land less. Better management and regeneration of natural resources has improved the quality of life in the region.

Economic Characteristics of the SAMIDA working area: Most of the target population is landless, small and marginal farmers with average working days of about 100 man days a year meager employment opportunities for all the concept of micro-enterprise has been taking roots in the region with the easily available credit facility at their door-step. A series of training programmes on entrepreneurial development by SAIMDA has significantly contributed the increase in small business. Women community has attributed this increase to thrift and credit programmes. Women have been playing a key role in establishing alternate livelihood systems, depending on available resources.

Dairying has been found to be the best alternative during non-agricultural season with the establishment of milk cooperatives by Visakha Dairy, Visakhapatnam. Almost all the villages in the development area are connected to the milk route. Wages were as low as Rs. 30/- to Rs. 50/- per day even during the agricultural season. In case of women, these was a variation of 50%in wage during unseasoned the local farmers do not follow the Government Minimum Wage. Local wage is still prevalent in the area. However, in the last seven years, there is an increase in the wage. Discrimination in wage persists between males and females.

During the agricultural season of over two months. Women wage is Rs. 80 /- to Rs. 60/- while the men receive Rs. 100/- per day. During the remaining unreason women get Rs. 20 to 30, while men are paid Rs. 60 to 50/- per day. Migration is a major problem. The earlier desolate conditions have been improved. The nature of migration in the region is of two types one is to go for livelihood in the absence if employment and the other is to earn income from out side. The locals opt for the second, as there is a variation in agricultural season of delta regions and the North Andhra districts. The period between nursery raising and transplantation of paddy in the region is the transplantation time in the region is the transplantation time in the Godavari and Krishna for t permanent structure.

The villagers would make use of the credit facility would migrate to as far as Kashmir, saved money to repay the loan, invested on the asset, back in the village

Agricultural Yields were very discouraging with poor crop management: Crop management and cropping patterns have been improved. In the last three years. The area received abundant and timely rainfall. Enterprising farmers have taken advantage of the rains and planted sugar-cane crop. The rejuvenation of tanks and improved irrigation potential has given extensive scope for development of horticulture plantations in the area. The other Major feature is vegetable cultivation by every household. For example Pottidorapalem had been the traditionally vegetable growing village under the tank irrigation system, which was marketed at Visakhapatnam. Because of situation of the tanks and erratic rainfall, the cultivation gradually subsided five years ago. Though not on a commercial scale. Once again, every family in their backyards and courtyards has significantly picked up vegetable growing.

Cultural Characteristics for The SAMIDA area: People of the area respect their traditional and cultural heritage. People of different religious faiths live in prefect harmony. All celebrates national festivals and local festivals. Group “bhajans” are organized where the whole village community participates. Socially, all castes and religions mingle with each other. In the last three to four years. Christian conversions have been a significant increase in the development area. Elders do not encourage marriages among different castes. With the involvement of SAMIDA in the region and by bringing the sociological and gender related issues to light. There have been a few instances where the entire village has played an integral part in performing inter caste marriages
